April is National Pet Month, a whole month dedicated to responsible pet ownership, a topic that’s very important to us here at Pawfit HQ and to our community.
Owning a pet is an amazing experience. They’re a part of the family, your best friend and bring so much joy into our lives.
Pets are also a huge responsibility which not everyone is ready for.
So, asked our Pawfit community what being a responsible pet owner means in 2021 and here’s what they had to say…
Keeping your dog under control and meeting their individual needs mentally and physically – Molly the Sprocker
Love, care and good training… oh and fun! – Working Cocker Ella
Don’t let your dogs run up to other dogs! – Eddie the blue cocker
Training your dog! – Teia and Theo the sausages
Getting them neutered/spayed to avoid any accidental pregnancies! – Harry Jones
Keeping them fit and healthy and making sure they’re eating the right foods and not getting overweight – Stacey Abrams
Fulfilling a dog’s mental, emotional and physical exercise needs, not just tiring them out – Jemima and Tiggy
At least one good walk a day, decent high-quality food and veterinary treatment – Adventures of Mr Monty
Respect other dog owners and do what’s right for your dog – Franktastic Mr Fox
Taking the necessary steps to keep them safe, especially with the rise in dog thefts right now – Liam Russell
If your dog doesn’t have good recall, put it on a lead/long line – Spaniel Koda
For me it’s ensuring that he is always safe & happy. That means he gets off lead only when I know he’ll be safe and there’s no livestock or busy roads nearby. I do my best to ensure he doesn’t annoy anyone else or their dog unless they’re happy with him coming to say hello or play with their dog – Sheonagh Christie
Picking up after your dog – River Staffsky
Making sure you can actually afford to look after a pet and give them everything they’ll need for a good life before you get one – Helen Jones
Training your dog, no matter what size it is – Hey its Daruska
