Prepare Your Pups for Fireworks!

Fourth of July is a special day, each year we celebrate our Independence with picnics, BBQs, parties, and the best fireworks displays.  The colors and booming of fireworks delight crowds and bring pride and joy to audiences all across the country.  However, not everyone is a fan of fireworks and more pets go missing around the Independence Day Holiday than any other day of the year according to Petamberalert.  Some of our four-legged friends can become nervous or skittish during these times and it is important to remember them when making holiday plans. In preparation for the big day, you can keep the following tips in mind to help make your celebrations safe and comfortable for all:

Keep them calm

Set the mood before, during, and after fireworks. If your pet is not a fan of fireworks, then try to keep them in a room or space that can protect them from any loud fireworks displays or avoid bringing your pet near them altogether. Settle them with blankets, pillows, and their favorite toy.  A nice chew treat can keep them busy and distracted as well.  Talk to them in a calming voice and soothe them as much as possible so they feel protected.

Check pet equipment

Make sure all your pet’s harnesses and collars are in working order.  They should be able to fasten securely to a leash and have no worn fabrics that could tear in a pet emergency.

Be prepared

Outfit your pet with a GPS location tracker not just for the Fourth of July, but to wear year-round.  A pet tracker like the Pawfit 3 can help keep pets safe all year long, but on days like Independence Day when dogs may startle more easily from the loud noises, being prepared is the way to go.  If your pet bolts or goes missing, a tracker can help you find them fast and keep them out of harm’s way.

Our pups are an important part of the family and you don’t want them to miss out on all the Independence Day celebrations.  Preparing in advance for any possible reactions from your pet can help make for a safer and happier celebration for all. Don’t forget to share your photos and videos or your celebrations with your pup on the Pawfit  Facebook or Instagram page.
