“Falling” for Fitness

The changing seasons bring new ways to stay fit for pets and their humans, and the autumn season is no different!  The cooler temperatures can make hikes, walks, or other physical activities more comfortable now that the heat of summer is in the rear-view mirror.  Fall activities are officially in full swing as well as pumpkin-flavored everything to tantalize pups and their parents everywhere.  Some extra fitness time together can help balance all the temptations of fall.

Here are three things to consider this fall with your pup:

Get outside

Sure, you have been outside all summer in the pool, basking in the sun, walking the beach, but now there is a change in scenery!  Hikes and walks in the woods are filled with colorful leaves on the ground to explore and crunch under paws.  If you are staying home, let your pup get involved in the yardwork with the family.  Pets love to “help” rake leaves (or jump in them!).

Check for Pet Welcome Mats

Apple picking, pumpkin patch exploring, hayrides, haunted Halloween activities, and more are all fun to do, but pets are not welcome everywhere.  Check out your local farm’s rules and event announcements to be sure you can bring your pet and make a list of possible places to visit.  If your pup is welcome, chances are there is something fun for them there too, and everyone benefits of the exercise from exploring different venues.

Prepare for the treat season

The festive holiday season is right around the corner and is bound to bring lots more treats for both humans and their pets.  So, why not get a head start now and burn off some of those calories with extra steps before the shopping and celebrating begins?

The quiet of fall can be a peaceful time of the year to engage with your pup in the great outdoors. Staying fit is a year-round initiative for pets and their families, but mixing it up each season can make it a lot more fun for all.  Don’t forget to track your steps and keep an eye on temperature alerts with your Pawfit tracker and of course hydrate!
