Fun and Easy Enrichment Ideas for Your Dog!

Now that we’re well and truly in the midst of lockdown, us 2-legged mammals aren’t the only ones who are (probably) eating more than usual and moving around even less! It’s important to remember the 4-legged family members are also in lockdown and might be feeling the cabin fever too.

There are different ways in which you can keep things interesting for your pet during these unprecedented times, including making mealtimes that little bit more exciting! Check out this video from the Dogs Trust on ways you can keep days as varied as possible: Super easy enrichment ideas for your dog

They also put together some really great tips and tricks that we thought we would share below:

Don’t worry if you don’t have Kongs or puzzle toys, there are other ways you could deliver their food:

  • Stuff food into toilet rolls, with paper in each end to stop it falling out – see how long it takes your dog to figure out how to get to their food.
  • If Pawfit Pal @reginaldgoldsocks was asked what his favourite toy is, he’d say his snake. But after the snake, it would be any plastic bottle he can get his paws on! One of his favourite games is to use empty milk bottles or pop bottles (please remove the lids) and fill them with dog food. It doesn’t take him much time to work out how to get his food out and he gets a little chew on the bottle too!

Always remember:

  • Watch your dog whilst they eat their dinner so that they don’t ingest anything they shouldn’t – be especially careful when letting them play with plastic bottles
  • If your dog shows any signs of frustration at not being able to get their food quick enough then distract them, take the ‘toy’ away and feed them normally
  • This should be part of their normal dinner rations – we are all watching our waistlines at this time!
  • Try using some vegetables instead of normal kibble or biscuits to mix it up a bit!

You can follow us on social media where we will be sharing more tips and tricks and we would love it if you send us pictures of your dog with their Pawfit device!

If you have any other tips on how to enrich your pets during this time, get in touch and we’ll share them with our Pawfit Pals!
